How can i grow my afro naturally or am i?

I heard that when ppl puts lots of chemicals in their it wont grow right. But im trying to grow my afro to great lenghts so i use this shampoo and conditioner called doo gro and also i spray it with oil sheen thats all basically am i doing somethig wrong also im just growing it so i can get it braided
