Playing mp3 disc in '06 Civic?

I burned a data disc full of mp3's using WMP. The car player says it plays mp3 and wma. When I inserted the disc, the readout said DISC READ and didn't play. I only waited about 15 seconds or so and popped it out. Upon inspection on my computer, the disc was arranged with 81 folders of 'Artist Name' each with one song in it and 89 other files just "loose". All these items were in a folder called Music. Next to the folder called Music, there was a wpl file (windows playlist). So the Music folder and the .wpl were in the root of the CD. My questions are: Is this complicated structure what caused the player to take long to read? I'm sure I can figure out how to burn it differently, but what is the best way to burn these CDs for car mp3 players? Is there any way to control the order in which they play? Will the player play playlists or any format?
