Is there Freeware software that will allow me to capture Audio from DvD as I play it on my notebook?

There must be some software that will let me capture soundbytes from my favorite DvDs when I play them on my computer. I don't want to re-encode the movie, rip audio, and pick out the segment to extract. Any ideas?
