My Aquatic Painted Turtle keeps eating his rocks on the floor of the tank... What should i do to prevent this?

He'll look down and grab a rock in his mouth and act like it's food then he'll spit it out? I feed him 3 times a day... i don't think he would be hungry?? Help pleasee!!!
